A bad sign for anyone, but worse for Faith, an F-Psy with the highly sought after ability to predict the future. Then the visions show her something even more dangerous-aching need…exquisite pleasure. Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a Changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy co-existence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several Changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. Possession in Death in The Other Side anthology (Eve Dallas, #31.5) by J. D. Robb

“The devil killed my body. I cannot fight, I cannot find. I cannot free her. You must. You are the one. We speak to the dead.”

Immediately after hearing these words, uttered to her by an old Romanian woman bleeding to death in the street, detective Eve Dallas begins to notice that her latest case has come with a number of interesting side-effects: visions of the deceased, instant familiarity with rooms she’s never seen before, and fluency in Russian. Likewise, there appears to be a force inside of her, a spirit other than her own, that won’t let her rest until she’s found Beata, the old woman’s great-granddaughter, whose disappearance two months prior remains a mystery. Desperate to be free of her new “gifts”, Eve pursues the facts until she discovers a link between Beata’s disappearance and the disappearance of eight other young women, all of whom attended the same dance classes, none of whom were ever heard from again.

Indulgence in Death (Eve Dallas, #38) by J. D. Robb

Purchased

First it was a limo driver shot through the neck with a crossbow. Then it was a high-priced escort found stabbed through the heart with a bayonet.

Random hits, thrill kills, murderers with a taste for the finer things in life-and death-are making NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas angry. And an angry Eve can be just as an efficient and dangerous predator as the killer.

As time runs out on another innocent victim’s life, Eve’s investigation will take her into the rarefied circle that her husband, Roarke, travels in-and into the perverted heart of madness… (from Amazon)

I love this series and would dearly love to re-read all of them, but with 38 titles including novellas, I don’t see it happening anytime soon.  This book starts with a vacation in Ireland visiting Roarke’s family.  It gives a glimpse into what his life could have been like if his father had not been the murdering SOB that he was.  It also shows the love between Roarke and Eve.

I like that Robb has gotten away from so much negative tension between them.  The last few books have shown they are more believing in their love for each other.  The only real fights seem to occur when they are trying to protect one another from danger.

Posession in Death (in the anthology The Other Side) will be released November 30, 2010 and the next full novel, Treachery in Death, is due out February 22, 2011.  Normally with books being released that close together, I would wait and read them all at once.  However, I never wait to read an Eve and Roarke book!  I love them way too much for that.

I am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1) by Pittacus Lore

Library

Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.

Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. we have lived among you without you knowing.

But they know.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.

I am Number Four.

I am next. (from Goodreads)

This is the first title in a new series that will be written by a group of authors like the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boy books have been.  I wish I didn’t know that because I tend to read based on the author rather than the series.  There are several series which are written by different authors . . . 39 Clues is one.  I tend not to read them because I don’t want one author who I might not like to ruin an entire series for me.

Anyway, having said all that, I am Number Four was actually a pretty good book.  It follows the premise that aliens are among us.  As a matter of fact, there are two different groups of aliens from separate planets.  One group invaded the others’ home planet and have followed the survivors to Earth to finish wiping them out.

I will probably have to read the rest of the series because my interest has been caught.  Oh yeah, I forgot to mention there is a love story between one of the aliens and a human girl.

The Roar by Emma Clayton

Library

In a bleak future, humans use terrible chemicals to fight The Animal Plague that causes all of the world’s animals to go rabid and renders most of the planet uninhabitable. The population now cowers in overcrowded walled cities. Mika, 12, and his parents live in London in terrible conditions. His twin, Ellie, supposedly drowned a year earlier, but Mika is convinced that she still lives. He’s right. The story begins with Ellie and a tiny monkey named Puck fleeing a spaceship in a stolen Pod Fighter. Sadly, their attempt to escape is foiled by the evil Mal Gorman, who has a plan to co-opt the entire first generation of children born after the Plague and make them into an army for his own nefarious purposes. And Gorman has special plans for kids like Mika and Ellie, whose mutations give them unique abilities. To save his sister, Mika will have to win a contest involving simulator battle games and many deadly challenges, using abilities he never knew he had. The story starts fast and never slows down. (from School Library Journal)

This book could quite possibly be the next Hunger Games.  There is no romance to it . . . the kids are only twelve years old, but it has all the excitement and suspense of Hunger Games.  Once again, the adults have pretty much destroyed the world and it is up to the kids to save it.  The ending is definitely a setup for a sequel (The Whisper, 2011), but it is not a cliff hanger and very satisfying.  I can’t wait to start recommending this book!

Tome of the Undergates (Aeons’ Gate, #1) by Sam Sykes

Purchased

The debut novel from an extraordinarily talented twenty-five-year-old author. Fantasy’s next global star has arrived. Lenk can barely keep control of his mismatched adventurer band at the best of times (Gariath the dragon man sees humans as little more than prey, Kataria the Shict despises most humans, and the humans in the band are little better). When they’re not insulting each other’s religions they’re arguing about pay and conditions. So when the ship they are travelling on is attacked by pirates things don’t go very well. They go a whole lot worse when an invincible demon joins the fray. The demon steals the Tome of the Undergates – a manuscript that contains all you need to open the undergates. And whichever god you believe in you don’t want the undergates open. On the other side are countless more invincible demons, the manifestation of all the evil of the gods, and they want out.Full of razor-sharp wit, characters who leap off the page (and into trouble) and plunging the reader into a vivid world of adventure this is a fantasy that kicks off a series that could dominate the second decade of the century. (from Goodreads)

I really wanted to like this book because it is written by Diana Gabaldon’s son.  I gave it over a hundred pages, but I can’t even finish the chapter.  Plenty of blood and guts, but not very much plot progression.

I can’t begin to imagine who would enjoy this book.  Oh well, it’s like I tell the kids . . . that’s why there are so many types of books, so there is something for everyone.

Midnight Crystal (Dreamlight, #3) by Jayne Castle

Purchased

Adam Winters has enough responsibility as the new head of the local ghost hunters’ guild without being saddled with the family curse. He’s convinced his recent nightmares and hallucinations will lead to him becoming a psychic rogue – unless he can find a stolen relic and a woman who can read dreamlight. Marlowe Jones rides into his life on a motorcycle and, though a descendant of the rival Arcane family, she’s just what Adam needs: a psychic private investigator and dreamlight reader extraordinaire. Together, amid the glowing catacombs and steamy underground jungles of Harmony, Adam and Marlowe must break the curse, save the entire underworld – and fight a passion that could destroy them both. (from Goodreads)

Not only is this book the third in the Dreamlight series, it is the ninth in the Arcane Society series, and the seventh in the Harmony series.  I love it!  Although it does make it problematical in regards to shelving.  LOL

It has taken several hundred years and a journey across galaxies, but finally the Jones and the Winters are together.  Of course, I can’t wait to see another contemporary book to see how the Joneses of our time fare with their romances.
